Why does a downloaded video have no sound?

Separate a silent source from an unsupported audio codec or a processing problem.

1. Play the original post, unmute the player and check volume. Some clips and GIF-like videos never contained sound.
2. Read the details after link inspection. Fetchoo displays audio availability when the source reports it reliably. An audio track can exist and still contain silence.
3. If the original has sound but the saved file does not, select H.264 MP4 and save a new result. This profile converts available audio to AAC. Do not select MP3 if you also need the picture.
4. Try another player. If the issue persists, open the help form with the platform, selected format and your job number. Never send passwords or cookies.

The MDN flower.mp4 CC0 fixture has a silent audio track in the original. Conversion cannot recreate missing sound.
